Infertility to fertility - My Little Man Story...

Yes, like I mentioned in my profile...I defeated infertility and had 2 kids now.
If you have tried many many ways just like me to get pregnant and hope to give it the last shot before considering IVF.

Really... try this, if it's around your ovulation period (if u don't know when u ovulate, use a ovulation kit, I am a fan for clearblue kit. Buy the stick kit instead of the monitor if you are on budget from Watsons or Guardian)  with your hubby, have a little wine and relax away at home or a nice hotel. Erase the thoughts of trying to conceive if possible, forget all the baby making position. Then get hot in action like when you both first get together...

RELAX and ENJOY the process because if you want to have a love child, you need to do it like what we called it " MAKING LOVE" and not follow all the instructions you read, results vary, remember?!?!

Anyway enough of birds and bees....

Initially, I refused going through what i been through for Cloie.  Well... thinking I am plagued with infertility, I tried the fertility medicine (clomid) and correct my poor ovary which was slightly "dislocated" from it's original position due to my C-section blood clots. No, all those doesn't make me pregnant at all and I really gave up the idea of having No.2.

Not until, we visited a fortune teller and she told me that I will have a baby boy soon...Puzzled but delighted on the prediction, we chose not to indulge on this lovely calling.  My cousin, also Cheryl got the same prediction.

Fast forward, just months after we visited the fortune teller...My cousin got pregnant and when she announced it, I don't know why I have this little voice in the back of my mind telling me I will be next...

and taaa...dahhh I got a positive in just 3 weeks later. I am not sure if it's divine intervention but well I do know when hubby and I decided to give up getting pregnant, we have one of the most magical moment together.

Snap shot of Fetus Josh

Pregnant with Josh is considered easy, I am able to work full time, managed my diaper bags distribution business and online store - Babetitude.com. My friends even commented that I walked too fast with a big tummy. I only have a few hiccups later part of my pregnancy especially Hemorrhoids aka piles that pain me the most. (never have that with Cloie)

@ 36th week - Piles got really bad, and I need to be on bed rest cos I can't sit up anymore to work..
Pain was so unbearable that even medicine given by my gynae were not helping. Went to Eu Yan Sang to see chinese doctor instead, and the medicine help.

Start feeling weird pull and pain around tummy but able to sleep for the night...

@ 37th week - went back to office, hopefully to get some work cleared before maternity leave. Got a large yellowish clot when I went toilet, and thought I got infection. Called gynae but she is out of town, her nurse asked me to come down for CTG to make sure I am not going through any contraction.

Reached clinic, done CTG, everything normal...but nurse told me to go to their cover gynae to get check because they are unable to determine if my clot was infection.

Dr Mary Yang briefly chatted with me then proceed to check me with her fingers....Man!! It's painful, and that's cervix check...She then calmly told me I am in labour, cervix dilated 3cm already...

IN LABOUR...wooohooo new word for me, since Cloie's birth was all predicted. Called hubby, got wheeled to labour ward...excited because I been wanting to do the norm and feel the contraction pain, the push etc...

Feel totally nothing at all. After clearing my tummy I am still laying down wondering what will the process be like... I told my gynae, that I love to try VBAC and that I am going to give it a try since Josh not breeched and is in the correct position for normal delivery.  VBAC is 50/50 chance and if it's failed , it will be emergency c-sect.  Dr Yang came after 2 hours or so and told me she is going to burst my waterbag...and "plish" like I pee with inflammation...very warm liquid and quite abit. Woooo got really excited, while waiting for contraction....hubby came and contraction came....and WRONG!! WTF am I thinking before that about contraction...it's so painful and I wanted to endure it without epidural. But knowing my chances, I asked for epidural after 3 hours of pain. Taking epidural in the midst of contraction, not easy... I was paralysed only on my right side and I can feel the pain still on the left. I only told the nurse that after 2 hours and she asked me why after so long in pain then I tell her...so i told her I thought it's normal and she get the anaesthetist on the phone and he told me that epidural have blind spot too...and if I need to re-position it...then I asked if I need to pay another $500 or so for it...He said no, then actually I forgot if he came baack but anyway...

After 10 hours of one sided pain and uncontrollable shivers...Dr Yang came in and told me dilation too slow and it's taking too long...to be safe if cervix is still not open fully by 2 hours time, got to go emergency c-sect.

I cried and talked to Josh to turn to his correct position and stop moving too much and it kinda work... Contraction through the graphs show it's more frequent and the nurses started to move alot around me, like getting things prepared. I kept on talking to Josh, telling him that I love him and I wanted to see him soon etc etc...A small setback in between the next 2 hours, like Josh's heartbeat went off a few time and nurse need to give me oxygen for it...Dr Yang came and changed, hubby on the side, nurses all set. There goes the push push and another push, I hear the loud cry of my darling boy...Josh.  Dr Yang said I pushed really well but unfortunately my inner wall somewhere got torn and she will mend it for me..

Josh - 37th week looks big  @ only 3.19kg.

The next 2 years with Josh...alot of fun and sweat.

Totally different from sister, Cloie...

He is more willing to drink his milk and is very demanding when it comes to food.
Cries loudly and play hard...
Now almost 2 already, he is obedient, cheerful, cheeky but have a bad violent temper
He loves Barney, Cars and loves to sing and tumble.

My Girl is 5....

Backlog - 18th April 2010

Looking thru this blog, it's just filled my heart with so many grateful and heart warming thoughts...

From having to learn so many type of fertility problems and aids after going thru some on my own, expecting and giving birth to Cloie is definitely one MAJOR MAJOR achievement in my life.  It's 2 years of learning to cope with hormonal imbalance which leads to fertility problem, then 1 operation, 1 miscarriage then 9 months later when Cloie finally born on 21st April 2005 via elective C-sect.

Anyway she is 5 now, though she looks more like a 3 years old and still able to wear her 12 months old clothes, she is growing up fine, chirpy and naggy. With fantasy of being a princess that's make her whole, I decided to get her a princess gown while in Tokyo Disneyland for her birthday.

Was pretty cash strapped after our Tokyo holiday, I tried to source for the right baker with good design cake at affordable price...but well designer's cake can never be cheap and also most of the family baker won't entertained last min. order.

Then I came across The Icing Room @ Compass Point and wanted to customise cake on my own to fit probably a Belle figurine or topper. I looked at all the belle's cake toppers available online, again I find it boring so I went to precious thots to look at the precious moment disney collection, it's beautiful but expensive. Budget for the cakes must be below $120.

I finally spotted 1 waterglobe with minature belle and bought it to The Icing room to check if their cake can hold the globe. Unfortunately, most of their cakes are sponge/chiffon so the cake will sink into the centre if we placed the globe there. So the supervisor suggested that they help me to dig a hole in the centre to place the waterglobe...Great Idea!!  So we going to have a donut shaped cake with the side of the cake designed to their Chantillea cake design.

Soon after the decision on the cake, Belle's tea party theme came up in my mind. With my youngest sister long forgotten Beauty and the Beast toys, Mrs Potts, Chips, lumiere together with rose bouquet agar agar, they create the magic for this creation...

The ikea pastry tray is too flimsy for the cake and globe actually, but it's all about the right balance.
I refused to purchase a 3 tiered cupcake stand because I am hoping to make full use of anything @ home.

We also cooked @ home that day. Yes, I understand the look of the food presentation is totally out of the theme but when u are celebrating with just your family, tasty food cooked with a lot of heart  more important.

I am not sure if it's the best Korean food in Singapore but to me definitely it's the most comfy and authentic one...

Backlog - 14/4/10

Korean Garden, a restaurant we visited more than a decade back when Kpop and drama didn't even exist in Singapore. I must say we were very ahead then, thank god for linking us up with a sweet all singaporean korean - Phoebe.

Phoebe, Joyce and I been besties since secondary school, I am the third party among them because Joyce and Phoebe know each other longer...since primary school.

Anyway, Phoebe's mum own this cute korean restaurant just off Tanjong Pagar since our secondary school time and we always love to visit for a nice homely korean dinner.

Our forever love
anchovies'  marinated in sticky sweet malt and green chili (my own name for the banchan served before dinner)

Tonight, Mrs Choi invited us over to her restaurant for dinner, I guess to thank us for helping phoebe's to look at her wedding venue in Singapore because Phoebe is far far away in NYC now

Tonight is great too, like a couple night's out we deserve...

Ken & Joyce

Having 2-3 blogs...Is it necessary!!!??

I am thinking of following what Julie Powell did for herself in Julie and Julia movie...Challenging herself by whipping up all the dishes from her favourite book/recipes by Julia Child in a year.

I can't remember exactly what Julie said in the movie about short term goals, but I am definitely in for such goals because at this point in life I can't see really far to make myself feel worthy of my life. With such documentation, I may regain some confidence and re-invent my life or myself.

But the problem with having another blog ( I have another business blog) will not be easy for me because i need to crack my brain to express what I want to say in simple written english. Yes, I am pretty bad with grammar and got limited vocabulary.

Cooking with Elsie - Assam Fish Head

Click to play this Smilebox recipe: Elsie - Assam

Digital recipe card made with Smilebox

What you see this digital recipe card are the ingredient necessary for Assam Fish Head.

My 2nd attempt to cook it without Elsie (my in law) around lack of the sour taste of assam and also the chili paste was not mixed properly while frying.

I am still finding out what makes a good chili paste mixture and will post it. Because the first attempt, I used Elsie's personal chili paste mixture and Assam taste just right.

Preparation

  • Wash the fish head and remove the inner skin near the brain area
  • Sprinkle and apply salt, msg onto the outer and inner part of the fish head
  • Cut up the vegetables (ladyfingers, tomato, lemongrass)
  • For lemongrass, we just need the inner portion so remove the external hard layer then slice to small pieces.
  • Pour coconut milk to mix with assam paste
Cooking method

  1. Steam Fish Head in boiling water (10-15 mins)

  2. After Fish Head is cooked, used the water to boil ladyfingers

  3. Stir fry the chili paste till slightly darker red (about 2-3 scoops depending on how spicy u want)

  4. After 1 min, add in lemongrass then mix in coconut mixture and stir

  5. Leave it  for 1 min, add in 1 teaspoon of salt, 2 1/2 teaspoons of sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons of msg

  6. Pour in the ladyfingers to boil, then add in curry leaves and tomato then leave them to boil further (1-2mins)

  7. Taste the mix, if too spicy, you can add sugar.

  8. Pour the mix onto the ready steam fish head.

Sharing - Mix & Match Gifts for April babies...

It's tough choosing the right pressie for going to be teen girls. So I decided to just mix and match something in between kiddy and teen for my nieces whose birthdays are in April too...

I selected a nice mini mug, carebear and a Majolica Majorca lip gloss.
A milk carton gift box which I find it special...

oh, forget about this nice sticker...

Buy or make some colored shredded paper to lay it on the bottom to cushion the mug
then arrange the gift inside the mug

Put the gift nicely in the box

My Birthday 2010

This year didn't want to celebrate my birthday at all because running a pretty tight budget in April after our Japan trip then renewal of my maid and also the kids' birthday.

Knowing I love celebration, my lovely hubby specially took leave to take me out to shop for my gift (was hoping he surprise me but he didn't have time and also do not want to get the wrong gift, anyway I am still happy for his thoughts) then a nice dinner buffet @ Ritz Carlton.  :)

9th April 2010

We wanted to watch Alice in Wonderland that day but the timings are all not right for us, so we went shopping in Orchard for my pressie...Started to rain while we explore the new stretch of malls from Mandarin Hotel to Somerset 313. Took shelter @ this Thai Restaurant - Flying Chilis for Thai Iced Tea and spring roll prawns. To kill boredom, we started to amuse ourselves with "Guess The Words Game".

We had so much fun with our word game!!

Before our dinner @ Ritz, we went into Nike @ Orchard Central and found my pressie...
Cool Black Nike Top which I wore immediately after I tried, and 1 more padded singlet :)

Nice ambience and not crowded.
Best part of the buffet is the seafood table
Oysters are free flow - there is 1 kitchen staff in charge of opening oysters whole night.
No one needs to wait around there for seafood, it's plentiful.
I didn't enjoyed much because I had tummyache just after my 1st plate.
E-fu was good too and the sweet corn.

Desserts however I think it's too little for my liking...

While waiting to see if Hui needs more serving, we cam-whore :)
and
did a video of our reaction test game!

Milestones - Stepping Out...

My sisters and I belong to the fatty genes type and always hide ourselves away sometime  from active sports or activities when we are younger due to low self esteem and bulky self.

Maybe that explain why we are still BIG now but well I am going to change this statement abit and set it as a goal for us -

It's ok to be BIG...but you got to start MOVIN' to better HEALTH...

Both Evelyn (younger) and I have started to work on our love for dance. Pamela (youngest), hope you start movin' soon to some active passion...

Evelyn is now learning ballet and already into her intermediate class and goes to 2 adult ballet classes per week.

When all our relatives heard she took up ballet, most of them laugh but guess inside they are feeling if she can dance ballet with her plus size and maybe worried as well if she will be "outcast" by her peers in the class.  I have that "outcast" worry too but well, I believe Evelyn will be able to ignore those.

I guess mum didn't let her join any ballet class when she is younger, was also shadowed by the above consideration and felt she doesn't fit into the category as ballerina for her chubby size.

Can't blame mum too and I can feel now she is doing it's out of protecting Evelyn  cos this world has always been brutal for chubby and plus size people regardless how old you are...

(Make me remember this side story, which happened to my best bud's niece who was chubby and get slammed by her ballet teacher for not dancing well because she is FAT. Her niece gave up ballet and went on diet on her own then @ only 5-6 yos and even now were concern about her size - **Any dance teachers who are reading this , please do not think dancing is strictly reserved for slim kids, your words will hurt their esteem whole of their lifetime. If  happened a chubby kid is slower, isn't your job to help them if they are willing to put more effort and not give up!!)

For me, I am truly happy she finally STEPPED OUT to do something she wanted since young.

Well done!! Evelyn a *BIG* pat on your back and hope you became a ballerina soon...Gambatte!

For me, I love dancing too...I remember I can dance non-stop when clubbing in zouk during my poly days. Since becoming a mum, clubbing is nearly history.

I am still not sure if I am passionate about dancing but recently I STEPPED OUT again to see if it's my real passion... I registered myself to a 3 days workout instructor module conducted by Les Mills from the gym I go to. The workout is called Les Mills BODYJAM® -- a 55 minutes dance cardio workout choregraphed with the latest dance music. I have been in Les Mills BODYJAM® workout the past 1.5 yrs to replace clubbing. This is also the workout that keep me fit till now. It's never boring and keep very much alive after each lesson.

The 3 days class was conducted by Les Mills APAC BodyJam Trainer, Fabulous Arnold Warren and Fitness First GXM - Sexy Naila Nadwana. :)

Those 3 days,  I learnt alot beside the techniques of Les Mills BODYJAM®, I also realised I need to work hard on my CONFIDENCE and SELF ESTEEM which put me down alot and obstructing me to become what I want to be in all aspects in my life and left me still pondering on my passion. But well at least I put my step out and see what is in store to dance and/or instruct for now and think how to improve myself if I want to pursue this passion.

I hope I can increase my confidence by my next personal milestone entry and got some good motivational experience to share. For now, any ecouragement and tips sharing on how to regain confidence will be appreciated!! :)

Now, I will continue with my bodyjam 52 practise at home and in the gym in hope to improve my techniques first.

Some recommendation for mummies who like to step out into a more active lifestyle but do not want spend too much money or are shy to join a gym or class. I started with all this home dvds before I step out as well ... see my favourite with my comments on the DVDs on the left corner of my blog or go straight to amazon below.
*Forget to add, it's cheaper to get from amazon directly or order through a spree*

Sakura Sakura Tokyo Part 5

Day 4 - We decided to put my in laws to a day trip since our kids are quite handful and the past 3 days proved that it's quite diffcult for both parties to compromise on what they want to see and do.

We selected Mt Fuji and Hakone 1 day Tour by The Grayline. This tour group will pick and drop them back to hotel so we are sure they will get back safe and sound to the hotel. It's cost 13,000 yen with lunch and travel by motor coach. Check out the itinenaries here : http://www.jgl.co.jp/inbound/contents/fuji.html

They had fun and it's the first time they encounter snowing, and meeting a famous politician from Thailand.
The bad part is they didn't dressed up warm enough like we advised.

Oh...see the black egg with Hello Kitty.
These boiled charcoal eggs boiled in sulfurous hot spring water, supposed to make you younger by 7 yrs after consuming. :)

For ourselves, we headed for Sanrio Puroland the same day. Don't forget to print out the discount coupon from their website to save on your passport rates.

It's abit confusing getting to Puroland at first by looking at the map provided.
First get to shinjuku station via JR Yamamote line then changed to another railway co. called the Keio line
to Tama Centre after changing train @ Chofu. If you are well versed in Japanese, you can actually see if there are any express train that goes directly towards Hashimoto with stop at Tama centre.
We took a limited express rail to Shinjuku straight without stopping to change @ Chofu on our way back.

*Cheapo and bad thing we done, we took advantage of cloie's size and passed her in without paying for her entrance. Kids under 3 yrs old get in free!!*

Cutesy bento lunch we had...You get to keep those lunchboxes and cups :)

Gumball chocolate, anyone?

Stealing photo moments with Hello Kitty & Daniel

Sanrio Puroland is a small theme park, I think beside Hello Kitty house, there isn't much to see for adults.
Alot of shopping and also Japanese tikam (malay word for lucky draw) that give you fantastic prizes at just 500 yen.

Tikam suitable for Cloie and they have kiddie rides which are satisfying for Josh.

The Girls' Visit to Hello Kitty House...
We went in ourselves because papa left his passport in the locker. Argghhh

Hello Kitty stays in a studio landed property in puroland.
Nice fish tank...

Best features in her house, is this big hello kitty shaped bathtub
completes with shower head.

We met a lolita @ the locker room, oh she is not the mascot of puroland.
We just find her in full spirit of cosplay and also match being in puroland, so we asked to take a photo to show we appreciate her effort...hahaha :)

The other character on the left  is Sanrio new character - Jewel pets.

Our trip to Shinjuku to search for food and my sister's DSi LL
We started from the wrong exit, but for Shinjuku major shopping area, starts from east exit near a shopping mall called Lumine Est.

Before we found our way to the East exit to Shinjuku, we walked the underground area of the west exit, there is odakyu ace where i bought all the dried seafood snacks, sweets for my relatives. I think they have an online store called  http://www.e-taishido.co.jp/

We had our dinner in this Japanese Healthy Restaurant underground Shinjuku Pepe Store which is also around Shinjuku Prince Hotel. We had Oyako-don and Hamburger Rice set, sorry we didn't capture the name of the restaurant.

My happy princess, as usual she got the most gifts from puroland.

Josh wants to doll up too..

We reached our hotel pretty late that night, and still got to pack up.

Day 5 - Our last day
Didn't plan anything, just hope to shop around Ikebukuro and rush to  BIC camera to get my sister's DSi LL.
Official check out time was 11am and Japan hotel don't entertain late check out request but if you are willing to pay then they gladly extend for you. Since we need to leave only around 2plus, we extended 1 room.

After the kids' breakfast in the hotel, it's already 1030am when we go out for our brunch.
Hotel staff screwed up my credit card and were arguing with them over the counter for 30 mins. They double charge my card and didn't even bother to explain the reason. I have to call DBS to check to know the real reason, by then it's already 11am.

Then Cloie saw this setup...which we try to walk pass it fast
Queue for another 30 mins for this slide which only allow you 2 chances to slide down.

While Hui and Cloie waited in q, I tried to shop around but can't concentrate with Josh making noise.
Told myself I will come back later after lunch to shop again.

The view of Ikebukuro junction to rail station.

We had our lunch here, this is a Japanese western restuarant.
My 2nd last chance for Japanese curry rice, I finished 1 big plate myself...

By the time we finished our lunch, we only left less than an hour to collect our luggages from the room and check out for our bus.
Shopping for clothes were totally impossible so my kind family left me @ Vivitix to get myself a gift to mark the end of my tokyo trip.

The place I missed out during this trip is Odaiba Venus Port. Heard there are outlet store there.. :(

The duffy bear who is really popular with the Japanese girls...I wonder why?
The DSi LL which we went all the way to get for Ms Pamela Ng.

Some of the souvenirs we bought for family

Our tickets from various transports and disneyland.

I hope to save for another trip to Japan, hopefully to Hokkaido then Tokyo again in 2011, it's been tiredly fun for us.
