PCOS & PREGNANCY

The many cysts in a polycystic ovary are follicles that have
matured

but, due to abnormal hormone levels, were never released.

In a normal ovary, a single egg develops and is released each month.

I was plagued with PCOS
(Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) in 2002. I was preparing my wedding then when my weight started to elevate. I am about 55kg then and all of sudden I was 65kg within 6 months. My whole body was bloated and my wedding gown need to be altered and I can't even wear my evening gown. My menses was regular all along but within those months it only came twice. I blamed it on the stress due to my wedding preparation. Early 2003, I visited a GP and told him of my sudden weight gain but thru my description he felt that it might be hormonal imbalance and recommend me to see a gynae. After ultrasound scan, my gynae saw string of pearls on both of my ovaries. I was given clomid and
metformin. After a year of these medications, my weight didn't stablised but it didn't dropped back to my previous weight.
SAD!!!!! I also did not managed to get pregnant so when I told my gynae I am anxious
on that issue, she recommended me to do keyhole surgery to remove the cysts and check my fallopian tubes.

On Feb 2004, I went ahead with the surgery. After 2 months of my surgery with help of clomid, I gotten pregnant. Though its rather short-lived, but at least now I know I can get pregnant.

Through that 1 year plus of PCOS experience, I read alot of medical research and personal experience of others.

Here are some of my conclusions.

First, we need to analyse our lifestyle when we are in our younger years.

Like me, I started eating slimming pills when I was in Secondary 3 and my weight have been yo-yo. I also went into crash diet in Poly.

If you are obese or overweight, you need to lose weight to improve your PCOS conditions.I started to eat healthy and exercise regularly. My weight did dropped but slowly. Reports did say that don't expect to lose
a lot but by losing a bit, it will also improve your conditions.

Of course, if you are not obese or overweight, maybe you should just look at what you eat. And if clomid
didn't help, I would recommend you to consult a chinese physician. Chinese medicines do help. I have tried and feel that its does help to replenish and heal those areas you have problems. But of course its doesn't taste nice.

My 2 cents worth = Treating PCOS needs alot of discipline and patience. If you are eager to get pregnant, you must first learn to relax and also do some temperature charting, its does help.

A lot of baby dust to those trying to get pregnant
.
